Question of the Week: Woof

Tell me about your favorite dog in your life.

Cooper is the first dog our family has owned. The happy swish of his tail moves energy freely among us and our home. He motivates us to M-O-V-E and be in nature daily. We have benefitted immensely from the addition of him to our lives/family. He has a girly-girly bark and he means it when he "woofs!" :)

What other posters had to say:

My favorite dogs name is Fendi. She is a 4 pound black and white chihuahua who has no clue she is a dog. She sits in my lap at every single meal and shares whats on my plate. She almost never eats dog food. She will soon be 5 years old and has been a constant companion and bed warmer for me since she was 6 weeks old. I love her like a child!

To Gus, every day is a party thrown in his honor; every dog is a new friend. He is ridiculous in the best way possible, and makes me laugh numerous times each day.

to answer. Each one has had a special place in my heart and continues to even if they have departed this earth...

Jesse Dog (JD) which ironically is JenDala (JD), JD squared. He brought unconditional love with him everywhere he went. I was blessed to have him for 16 years meeting the world with no judgement and fierce compassion. Jesse Dog taught me a lot about giving, caring, loving, being. I feel him from time to time reminding me of how precious our life is and how worrying about things is not an option.

Homer is my goofy love-monkey. When he wags his tail his whole rear does the twist. When I sit down he lays on my feet. The joy in his face when he sees me makes my world a better place.

Louie was a rescue pit pup who lived with us and loved us for 16 years. He was sweet and affectionate. He was funny and was great company. He kept us smiling in good times and bad. We miss him like crazy!

My little Simon, a Yorkie Poo, who turns out to be the canine version of Buddha. He's teaches me every day ... how to be in the present, how to go with the flow, how to be so in tune with another to anticipate each other needs and wants, understanding, patience, forgiveness, and last but not least, UNconditional love (the kind a parent has for its child) ... I'd jump in front of a moving car to save him. I know Simon came into my life to teach me unconditional love.

Mine is my 6 year old Pit Bull, Princess. We rescued her when she was 8 months old. She found US! I have a chronic pain condition and many days she has layed with me in bed because that was all I could do. I love her so much and feel like she is my angel.

awwwww....... My sweet Daisy just passed away suddenly the day after Christmas, it was a huge blow to our family and we are still reeling. She was our "Serendipity Dawg", choosing us when we needed her most. I miss my sweet blue eyed Daisy Ding Dong and will be planting daisies on her grave this spring I miss her so much.

Scruffy dog was a mutt from the pound, he was incredibly active in his youth and loved to go to the river with my stepdad Brock Henderson (who passed away in 2010) and fetch huge logs, way to big for him. This was in the Willamette Valley, Oregon. I always wanted to cuddle with him but he wasn't that kind of dog...until his older years. Scruffy lived a long life for a dog, he was 14 when we had to make the tough decision, because he was in pain and not eating. But even at 14, people always asked if he was pup because he always had so much energy. He was an incredibly loyal dog and always up for a walk, even just to the mailbox. Finally, in his later years he became very cuddling and that made me happy. He was notorious for getting his head under your hand so that you would pet him nonstop and so you would. He passed away November 5th, 2012, and he is surely missed. Let me know and I can post a photo.

Woof- wonderful, outstanding, our friends!
I am always amazed by the wisdom and patience that my 9 year old Black Labrador "Maia" beholds. She understands all, and shows her love with her eyes, tail, heart, and many "lick kisses". We also have a 6 month old puppy Cavalier King Charles named "Jesse Blue." He is a rascal. Full of fun and mischief ! Between the two of them - I'm up to my eyeballs in Woof! And you know what!? I wouldn't have it any other way!

My Bubba Gump stole my heart when I was fostering him. He's a little black Chihuahua mix with big brown eyes and an underbite. He would stare at me thru the crate during adoption events, never taking his eyes off of me. He knew that I belonged to him even before I did. I became a "foster failure" and he became my Bubba. But, I still have lots of room for more as each new foster dog holds a place in my heart in one way or another forever.

I have 2 frenchies and they are my children!! I am unable to have kids of my own so they have become it. My oldest one has horrible health issues, seizures, inner ear disease, among other things. I believe he is mine because I can care for him and love him!!!

My dog scraps lies outside my bedroom door when I meditate. She will not let anyone pass while she protects our space. We think she may have been a temple dog in another incarnation . She is fierce, she is a miniature poodle.

Traughber my sweet angel Golden Lucky; we didn't get to keep him long but he showed me how to love and really opened our family to joy.

While this dog is not mine, she is my boyfriends, she has saved his life in a sense. My boyfriend suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from serving our country back in 2007. He has his ups and downs, and when he is down, he is REALLY down. I did my research and read that dogs help people who suffer from PTSD. That no matter how mad you get at them, there are always there to love on you. So I decided to go out and rescue a dog. Her name is Sue, and I can honestly say, that we didn't rescue her, she rescued my boyfriend. She has helped him overcome his pains, and is there when he feels down, since I live in a different state than he does. Without Sue, I don't know where he would be and he wouldn't be happy.

My retired racing greyhound, BB. A more sociable dog you could never find. When I wake it is to his cold nose waiting patiently beside the bed and whereever I walk, he leans and walks with me.

I have had many dogs in my life so it would be unfair to name a favorite. Still my current pair are cute as a button. Wesley the Pembroke Corgi and Drew the YorkiPom. They amuse me day and night.

Sweet pea was an adult chihuahua that my dad rescued from a breeder. She had spent most of her life in a small chicken wire cage around a tree having babies. She was kind of homely but when dad brought her home she ran around our backyard as fast as she could until she just couldn't go any more. She slept with each of us 4 kids, making the rounds night after night, snuggling with us under the covers. She allowed me to dress her in my old baby clothes and would sit up in my dolls high chair until I was ready to get her down, never complaining. She wasn't too keen on dad giving my mom a kiss each night when he came home from work, until my mom had a breast cancer scare and had to have surgery. The day mom came home from the hospital she stuck as close to her as was possible until mom was recovered. She won all our hearts. The night she died she knew where to go, as she almost made it to dads side of the bed. You see, she knew who the protector was in the family a d she tried to tell him she needed his help. I don't think there was anything to be done but I know we all wish she had been able to wake him just so he could've showed her how much we all loved her before she passed. I'm sure she's still sticking as close as possible to mom in heaven, protecting and comforting her while she waits for the rest of us. RIP Sweet Pea! We love you.

'Teton' is was smart he was devoted he was handsome he was lovable he is missed!

Jimmy Beagle had been my parents' dog. Together, Jimmy and I grieved the loss of our parents, as well as two other furry siblings. Both our worlds were shattered, when a stray dog, dragging an eight foot logging chain, climbed our fence, killing our Buddy, and terrorizing the two of us, until police came on Halloween 2007. Jimmy had always been my undeniable favorite, but our bond became more intense, after that. This gentle soul hated to be away from me during non-work hours, so he became a minor celebrity in my town, visiting dog-friendly stores, the Farmers Market, attending parades, etc.
Sadly, Jimmy died at the age of 17 on 11/11/11. His body could not keep-up with his spirit. Just this morning, someone stopped me, to inquire about Jimmy. His legacy lives on.
